Table Lamp
2019
Text
A lamp derived from Theo van Doesburg’s 1923 Contra Composition. A series of planes were selected from the piece and spatially reinterpreted as a physical piece of furniture using de Stijl design principles.
A primary focus was to maintain simplicity of construction; only wood, acrylic, glue, and basic dowel and slot joints were used to emphasize the relationships between elements. The plywood pieces are minimally treated to maintain their individual readings as separate planar objects, while still forming a spatial whole.
