Ligonier Street House
2019 / Pittsburgh, PA
Text
A simple house for a family with two children in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. The scheme borrows the row house typology of the neighborhood to remain contextual, while still attempting to subvert its constraints. The house is arranged around two double-height courtyards which disrupt the horizontality of the design, yet allow it to maintain a similar street presence as its neighbors. One courtyard occurs at the front of the house, creating a threshold space between it and the street; the other is centrally placed and brings light into the bedrooms and living area.
